NIGERIA POLICE FORCE (NPF) VERSUS DEPARTMENT OF STATE SERVICES (DSS)

NPF: Established by CAP P19 L. F. N. 2004 DSS: Established by CAP N74 L. F. N. 2004 NPF DUTIES (section-4):

The police shall be employed for the prevention and detection of crime, the apprehension of offenders, the preservation of law and order, the protection of life and property and the due enforcement of all laws and regulations with which they are directly charged, and shall perform such military duties within or outside Nigeria as may be required of them by, or under the authority of this or any other Act.

DSS DUTIES [section-2(3)]:( a) The prevention and detection within
Nigeria of any crime against the internal security of Nigeria;

(b) The protection and preservation of all non-military classified matters concerning the internal security of Nigeria; and

(c) Such other responsibilities affecting internal security within Nigeria as the National Assembly or the President, as the case may be, may deem necessary.

QUESTIONS:
1) Why is the DSS now carrying out the duties of the NPF?
2) Is it the duty of DSS to be arresting civilians and sitting Judges who are handling cases in which the DSS are on the losing side?

3) Is the DSS empowered by the law to perform the duties of NPF?

4) Is the DSS supposed to intimidate and harass Nigerians and ambush them under the guise of arrest and at the same time not having any arrest warrant issued by a competent court?

5) What is now the role and justification for maintaining the NPF if the DSS have taken over the entire duties of the NPF?

6) What are those claiming to be Nigerians waiting for to sponsor a bill to recall CAP N74 L.F.N. 2004?

7) What is so difficult in getting the Senate and House of Rep. to recall CAP N74. L.F.N. 2004 so as to eliminate the DSS and allow the NPF to do their constitutional responsibilities?

RECOMMENDATION:
Those still interested in Nigeria should sponsor a bill to recall CAP N74 L.F.N. 2004 in order to eliminate the DSS and allow NPF to function as required by the law.
